Wales 2024 - Seal-ing sad (Day 4)

Today was the fourth and last day of our holiday to North Wales. Before we headed home, we just had a few more stops to see things we hadn't yet ad chance to do. The first was to go to Angel Bay in Penrhynside, at the end of the Little Orme. This is a small bay about 10 minutes walk from the residential road, which is home to seals. If you visit between September and December, as we did, you may be lucky enough to see a large number of seals and even a pup as this is the pupping season. This was definitely one of the highlights of our trip, watching the seals and the pup on the beach.  After our trip to Angel Bay, we headed to Aber Falls , which is somewhere Nicole has wanted to visit for some time. When we looked online prior to visiting, we saw that the route should be easy and accessible for all. In reality, this isn't quite correct as the first part from the lower car park onto the main walk, and the first part of the main walk, are both steep in sections and may be diffic...

Wales 2024 - Exploring Anglesey (Day 3)

Whilst along the North coast of Wales, we decided that it would be worth heading over to Anglesey. Until we got there, we didn't realise quite how big it was. However, we headed for a few key points that we wanted to explore. The first stop was Llanddwyn Beach , which was a long stretch of sandy beach with a small island to the west that gets cut off at high tide. This beach offered lovely views back onto the mainland and we also managed to spot some oyster catchers on the neighbouring beach. The beach is on the edge of a nature reserve, which boasts chance of seeing red squirrels, but we didn't have time to explore today.  Our next stop was South Stacks Cliffs , which is an RSPB nature reserve. We wandered down to Ellin's Tower, where there was an RSPB volunteer helping to spot and identify bird and other species. We spent some time there, but unfortunately did not see much today, although Shannon did manage to see a grey seal. We headed back towards the visitor centre and...

Wales 2024 - An underground adventure (Day 2)

Day 2 of our holiday started with a unique adventure. We had booked ourselves onto a session of underground golf at Zip World Llechwedd. On our way there, as we had plenty of time, we stopped off at Cwmorthin waterfall . The instructions that Nicole found stated that it was a 10 minute stroll from the car park to the waterfall, however in reality it was a lot less than this. The waterfall is the start of a longer walk if you want to adventure further. As we were just stopping off, we admired the waterfall and then journeyed on.  After checking in at Zip World and making sure we were kitted up with our safety helmets, we started our underground golf session. For this, we headed underground on the cable railway to an unused cave which was kitted out as an 18-hole crazy golf course on four levels. The course itself offered plenty of challenging obstacles, and even included a slide to get down to the final two holes. Somehow Shannon seems to keep winning when we play crazy golf, and t...

Wales 2024 - Castles and a very foggy walk (Day 1)

For our late summer holiday this year, we decided to go on a trip to the North Wales coast. Nicole has always enjoyed going to Wales, and it turns out that Shannon has never been, so it seemed like a great place to visit and have chance to properly explore. As we live in Lancashire, it wasn't very far for us to travel, so we didn't have to set off too early. We had originally planned to spend the first day in and around Llandudno, which is where we were staying, however the weather had other ideas! As it was very overcast, raining and the visibility out to sea was poor, we decided to make use of our National Trust memberships to visit Penrhyn Castle and Garden . We were pleasantly surprised by the castle and grounds. It is a short 5-10 minute walk up to the castle itself, although there is a buggy service if this is needed. We were able to see a large proportion of the castle rooms, as well as inside the adjoining house, and there was a walled garden to explore too. We spent ab...
