Our activity of day 4 was the reason our trip was extended as it turned out that we wouldn't have been able to visit the Heights of Abraham easily on the days we had initially booked for due to the tourist seasons. We got up promptly and headed to the attraction ready for it to open at 10am to make sure we made the most of our day. The Heights of Abraham is accessible via a cable car, which was much scarier than we both anticipated. We managed to visit on a day where it was incredibly foggy, therefore the views on the way up left much to be desired, but once we were at the top and the fog cleared the views were spectacular.
We wanted to make sure we had time to do everything available, therefore we headed straight away to The Great Masson Cavern. We were led through the cavern and found out all about the formation of caverns at the Heights of Abraham in an interesting and engaging way. After this, we explored the Long View and Wombles exhibitions before finding ourselves somewhere to sit and enjoy our lunch with a view. We went on the Great Rutland Cavern tour after lunch, which was pleasantly very different to the first cavern tour as it provided more of an insight into the lives of the miners that worked in the caverns. Both tours would be very much recommended. As we had arrived early, we still had plenty of time and could therefore join in a short walking tour around the attraction which allowed us to find out more about how the Heights of Abraham turned into a tourist hotspot, before grabbing a slice of Bakewell Tart and a hot chocolate each in the cafe. Our trip back down the cable car offered much better views and took us back to the car park from which we went on a walk down Lovers' Walks to Derwent Gardens and back through Matlock Bath.
We had every intention at this stage of heading back to our AirBnB, however we spotted a sign for crazy golf. Anyone that knows us well will know that we love a game of crazy golf, so this was too hard to resist and we weren't disappointed. Bonkers Illumination Golf provided us with 9 holes of fun! Every hole had a different challenge you had to complete, which made it more exciting than your standard golf and a fantastic way to end our fourth day.
