NC500 - The Long Journey Home (Day 12)

There's not really much to say about our final day of our NC500 trip. We had planned to spend the morning enjoying the views in St Andrews. Unfortunately, we managed to choose a very foggy day. We walked along the coast from the golf course to St Andrews Beach. The weather started to clear as it got towards lunchtime, however sadly we couldn't stick around too long as we were conscious of the very long journey we had ahead. We managed to find time to pop to The Cheesy Toast Shack to try their famous cheese toasties. I opted for their classic Mac 'n' Cheese toastie, and Nicole had the vegan haggis one. I would like to say mine was delicious, but a few bites into the first half the seagulls decided that they fancied to finish this half off for me. By the time we then walked the 20-30 minutes back to the car, it was cold so this detracted from the taste. St Andrews is definitely somewhere we will have to think about going back to, but will learn from this lesson and ensure we park somewhere we can eat our lunch in the safety of the car!

After this, we embarked on the long journey back home. We were lucky with traffic and made it in good time, and even managed to make a stop at Tebay services. This is somewhere we have wanted to stop off at, but usually when we are travelling to Scotland we are only going just over the border and therefore it seems like a silly stop to make. We weren't disappointed by the Tebay farm shop and decided to treat ourselves to a rosemary and garlic focaccia and some sausage rolls (1 vegan and 1 meat) to have with the soup we had frozen ready for our tea when we got back. We also picked up a couple of traybake slices too as an afternoon snack. The foods we bought were all delicious and we will definitely be making another stop in the future, possibly even on one of our shorter trips to Scotland.

Southampton 2022 - Drive home (Day 8)

The drive home was horrendous. There were no less than 10 accidents, there was queues everywhere and the alternative route was suggested through Reading. We did not opt for this route as we didn’t want to head towards the masses of people travelling to London for HRH’s funeral. I think the total journey took us twice as long as it should have and is not one that I would like to do again. Hopefully next time will be better. I didn’t get to twist Nicole’s arm into another Leon’s as we didn’t quite make it there for lunchtime. Let’s see what the next holiday has to offer. We realised when writing the posts from this holiday that we really didn't do a very good job at taking photos. Watch this space for more photos from our future adventures!

Wales 2024 - An underground adventure (Day 2)

Day 2 of our holiday started with a unique adventure. We had booked ourselves onto a session of underground golf at Zip World Llechwedd. On our way there, as we had plenty of time, we stopped off at Cwmorthin waterfall . The instructions that Nicole found stated that it was a 10 minute stroll from the car park to the waterfall, however in reality it was a lot less than this. The waterfall is the start of a longer walk if you want to adventure further. As we were just stopping off, we admired the waterfall and then journeyed on.  After checking in at Zip World and making sure we were kitted up with our safety helmets, we started our underground golf session. For this, we headed underground on the cable railway to an unused cave which was kitted out as an 18-hole crazy golf course on four levels. The course itself offered plenty of challenging obstacles, and even included a slide to get down to the final two holes. Somehow Shannon seems to keep winning when we play crazy golf, and t...

Southampton 2023 - Ape-ing Around at Moors Valley (Day 3)

You may have noticed by now that there can tend to be a bit of a theme in our holidays of us at some point doing Go Ape. We have said we would like to have a go at as many of the courses as we can, and also still had some of our gift voucher to spend, therefore decided to tackle Go Ape at Moors Valley Country Park . This is somewhere that Nicole used to go a lot when she was younger as it features a play trail, which is a series of different natural and wildlife themed play equipment spread out through the woods. Although we explored this later on, we started our day off with Go Ape. I would say that this Go Ape Course is probably my favourite so far. They seem to have done a lot of work on it since Nicole last completed it (although admittedly this was probably at least 15 years ago!). They have a different safety system in place than the other Go Ape courses we have done, which involves you being connected to the course at all times once you are on a section rather than havin...
