Today is the day! The reason that
we originally planned to come down to Southampton – LION KING! Yes, we can
watch this in Manchester, but it was a good excuse to come down and see the
family. But first off, we had to make the annual trip to purchase as many Percy
Pigs as I am allowed!
Before we watched the Lion King,
we had a meal at Leelawadee Thai Restaurant. This was my first experience of a
‘proper’ Thai meal. I was not disappointed; I am now a great fan of thai red
curry and sticky rice. Seeing as this is
Nicole’s favourite cuisine, it is probably a good job! It was also nice to meet
members of Nicole’s family that I hadn’t met before but had heard a lot about.
I haven’t been to see any
performances in the theatre before and I have always wanted to see the Lion
King. To say it was an evening performance, there was a lot of kids around, and
on a school night! Let’s just say I want disappointed with the performance. I
would recommend it to everyone! It was a lovely birthday present. And just a
heads up if you are planning to ever go, it is worth sitting in the stalls. Throughout
the performance there are animals that use the aisles as a path to the stage,
so sitting in the stalls means that you can see the intricate designs that go
into the outfits. It takes a bit of getting used to some of the adaptations of
humans becoming animals, but it doesn’t distract away from how amazing the show
is. My only quibble would be that Mufasa and the older Simba have swords, which
takes away from the fact that they are lions (unless of course they are
becoming more sophisticated and now weald swords!). At one point during the
performance, I did have a mini panic attack when the hyenas ran down the aisle,
but that is what happens when you get too comfortable, I guess. The whole
performance was spectacular, the cast put on an amazing show, and I have
already told Nicole I would like to go and see another performance.
